How We Weathered the Winter Storm (Beach Gypsy Style)
Share
When the winter storm rolled through, we knew it was going to be a “hunker down and ride it out” kind of couple days. We’ve had so many of you message to ask how we weathered the storm—and especially how our animals fared—so I wanted to share a little update from our little corner of the world.
First things first: everyone is safe
The biggest takeaway (and the one that matters most) is this: all is well.
We had limited use of water and we lost electricity, heat, phone, and internet service for a stretch. It wasn’t exactly comfortable, but it was manageable—and we’re incredibly grateful to say that no one was hurt.
The property took a hit, but our homes didn’t
We do have a lot of trees down on our property, which is going to take time (and a whole lot of muscle) to clean up. But thankfully, the main house and the animal houses are all unharmed.
In a storm like this, you don’t take that kind of luck for granted.
Animal updates: Pixie, the rooster, and a whole lot of checking in
If you’ve been wondering about the animals, you’re not alone—we were checking on them constantly.
Pixie the Pig is doing just fine! Honestly, I think she’s enjoying the extra attention. She’s been getting what we jokingly call “room service” to her shed, and she seems pretty pleased with herself about it.
And then there’s our one rooster who needed a little extra help. He had to be moved indoors to the garage while we thaw out. Will he be staying with us a little while longer? Possibly. He’s definitely acting like he owns the place.
What the storm reminded us of
When everything goes quiet—no buzzing phones, no internet, no usual routine—you notice what’s really important.
This storm reminded us that the most important thing at Beach Gypsy isn’t a schedule or a to-do list. It’s people (and animals) we love, safe and close. It’s the way we show up for each other. It’s staying warm together, staying calm together, and doing whatever needs to be done to keep everyone protected.
There’s something grounding about being forced to slow down. It brings you right back to what matters most: keeping our loved ones near and dear.
